

His life of 96 years led to many adventures… George enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduating from High School. He returned after being discharged from the Navy to the Baytown, Texas area. He went to work for the grocery store Weingartens. While working for Weingartens he met the love of his life, Leatha. They were married and began their life together on September 2, 1948. George along with Leatha were long time members of Central Baptist Church in Baytown where they attended regularly and George served as a Deacon for many years. George also worked for Exxon before deciding Real Estate was the career for him. He made many “deals” in this career along with buying his famous “rent houses” He not only had his own rent properties but collected rent passionately for others. He and Leatha loved attending church, spending time with family, and they were always up for a good game of Skipbo while spending time at the Galveston Condos. Many family get togethers were hosted around holidays with lots of food, including his cornbread and pecan pie that he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his wife of 74 years Leatha Mae Dossey Whitaker, great grandson Samuel Gene Whitaker, son in laws Zelrich Lynn Stockwell and Thomas Arnold Mills Jr, brothers Everett Whitaker, Herman Whitaker, Comer Whitaker, Norris Whitaker, Dick Whitaker, sisters Zelma Harlow, Irma Nenno, and Bertie Ickes
He is survived by daughter, Ginger Mills; son, George Ed Whitaker, III and wife Cathy. Grandchildren: Edwin Whitaker, IV and wife Jessica, Justin Stockwell and wife Jennifer, Kelli Locke and husband Jeremy, Kyle Whitaker and wife Rebecca, Craig Whitaker and wife Mikayla. Great granddaughters: Taylor Hipolito, Olivia Whitaker, Camille Whitaker, Collins Locke, Elizabeth Whitaker, Annie Mae Whitaker. Great grandsons: George Edwin Whitaker, V, Jaxson Stockwell, Jacob Whitaker, and Barrett Whitaker; step great grandsons, Jacob Burkhalter and Zachary Burkhalter. Sister: Vera Lambert. He is also survived by numerous loved ones who called him brother-in-law or uncle.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 - 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX 77521, followed by a funeral service which will begin at 2:00 PM.
