Hubert Lee Daniel, 90, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on March 5, 2026. Born September 21, 1935, in Caldwell, Texas, Hubert will be remembered as a kind-hearted, humorous man who could bring a smile to the room without ever trying too hard. Hubert proudly served in the Texas National Guard and took part in rescue efforts during Hurricane Carla, helping save residents who were stranded on rooftops. Earlier in life, he was a standout track athlete at Robert E. Lee High School, where he set a school record.
Hubert worked as a chemistry/laboratory supervisor, a role that suited his careful mind and dependable nature—though anyone who knew him would tell you he was just as skilled at supervising a pot of gumbo as he was anything in a lab.
He enjoyed nature and made time for the things that brought him peace and joy: deer hunting, bird watching, tending to his koi pond, and raising rabbits. He could happily settle in to watch Star Trek or a good Western, and he loved to cook—especially Cajun food like gumbo and étouffée. He even made his own boudin sausage, which was the kind of detail that perfectly captured Hubert: practical, curious, and quietly impressive. He also enjoyed researching on Ancestry.com, always interested in the stories that connect people across generations.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alma Daniel, and his wife Leonna.
Hubert is survived by his daughter, Danna Daniel; his sister Ruth Ell Gerthe and husband Fred Gerthe; and nephews Chris, Mike, Travis, and Greg Gerthe, along with numerous other family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held on March 13, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Cedarcrest Cemetery and Monuments, 3010 Ferry Rd, Baytown, TX 77520, US.
