Irene was the oldest of four children born to Oscar and Edith Roseen on July 14, 1920, in Roseau, MN. Irene spoke only Swedish until she was 5 years old. Her parents instilled within her an incredible work ethic, a tenacity for perseverance, a love for music, and the ability to love life.
She was an incredible hostess. Her home was always filled with guests, both young and old. In fact, Shari Capps met Eddie, a young handsome Air Force recruit, in her parent’s home at an after-church fellowship. Johnny and Carol remember vividly always coming home to a house full of truly honored guests. All of them were fed a big meal, an awesome desert, and an incredible sample of God’s real love.
Irene worked for 29 years as head cashier and bookkeeper at J.C. Penny’s. She would stay for hours after closing to balance the books to the penny. Integrity, diligence, and loyalty were part of her daily dress. As a pastor’s wife, she was always supportive, encouraging, and engaging.
Irene leaves such a legacy. Her husband Earl preceded her in death on January 2, 1990. Her parents and her brother, Delmer, also greeted her in glory. Shari (Eddie) Capps, Johnny (Ginger) Sherman and Carol (Leonard) George had the joy of knowing her as mother. Her Grandchildren include: Jeffrey Capps, Janna Lamb, Tiffany Wright, Taryn Sherman, Todd Sherman, Michelle Cagle, Tammy Wimbish, and Ashley Arrington. The Great-grandchildren are Jeremy Capps, Marlo Lamb, Jordan Lamb, Kirby McCready, Wimberly Wright, Kendall Wright, Cannon Cagle, Kylie Wimbish and Macie Wimbish. She is also survived by two sisters; Helen Skime and Loraine Grahn and her husband Kenny, both from Minnesota.
Irene was a member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church. She had resided at St. James House for the past 9 months. Special thanks go to her many friends at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church, all caregivers at Swan Manor and St. James House.
Expressions of love may be made to Cedar Bayou Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. After Earl’s death, Trinity Baptist continued to honor his memory with gifts of love to Irene. Thank you for loving our Mother as you have.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Sunday, November 20, 2005 from 3:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, November 21, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Sincerely,
Shari, Johnny and Carol
