Iva Madell Doughtie Bohannon

Iva Madell Doughtie Bohannon, 85, of New Waverly, TX, formerly of Baytown, TX was born November 21, 1925 in Thornton, TX to Barbara Ivy Fox and Robert Jackson Speights Doughtie and went to be with her Lord on Sunday October 16, 2011 at her home.

She grew up in Bangs, TX where she met the love of her life, Paul Bohannon, and they were married on September 5, 1942 before he went off to war. After he came home from the service, they moved to a mountaintop in Greenland, AR, just outside of Fayetteville. She was a founding member of a Home Demonstration Club in the late 1940's near their home where moms shared home economic ideas such as cooking, quilting, and sewing.

Her family had a strong heritage of Christian service. At 10 years old, she became aware of her need for Christ, but she said that she really began to live for Him when she rededicated her life and was scripturally baptized as an adult at Northside Baptist in Baytown, where she and her husband were founding members.

Paul and Madell were active servants in several churches during their marriage, and Madell was always especially active in children's mission training camps and vacation bible schools, as a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She and Paul also helped to establish a chapel near the vacation home they built together on Wild Horse Mesa near San Luis, CO in the early 1990's. She loved to spend time at the cabin they built together.

Her favorite pastimes included sewing, camping, fishing, and spending time with family. Her favorite sport was baseball, which she played in school. She devoted her life to her Lord, husband, and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul of 68 years; sister, Marie McBride; and daughters-in-law, Peggy Lucas Bohannon and Gala Potter Bohannon.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Iva Paulette O'Sullivan of New Waverly and Barbara and John Isom of Waller; sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin and Sharon Bohannon, Robert Bohannon, and Julius and Lori Bohannon, all of Baytown; sister, Bobbie Ellen Robertson of Houston; brother, Calvin H. Fox Doughtie of Houston; 13 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Biddy officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eric O'Sullivan, James Bohannon, Anthony Bohannon, Danny Isom, Jason Bohannon, and Adam Bohannon. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Wallen, John Isom, Josh Nguyen, Jared Allsen, Chance O'Sullivan, and Andy O'Sullivan.
