J. Fletcher Hickerson

J. Fletcher Hickerson, 99, of Baytown was born July 17, 1912 in Ferguson, MO and passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012, in Pearland. He earned a B. S. degree from the University of Houston while working in the Exxon Chemical Lab, where he retired. He then became the Emergency Coordinator for The City of Baytown, where he retired again. He then served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 10 years. He was a very active member of Wooster Baptist Church and the Gideons International. He received several professional awards, including Honorary Membership in The American Society of Testing Materials. He authored and co-authored pioneering articles utilizing chromatography to analyze and develop petroleum products. His unique knowledge was sought over the years and leading to interesting travel opportunities all over the world as a consultant.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Orlean Hickerson and 6 siblings. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gay and Nick Jackson of Conroe; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Beth Hickerson of Baytown and Glen and Ruth Hickerson of Pearland; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Friday, May 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Rd., Baytown, TX 77521 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Wooster Baptist Church, 7007 Bayway Dr., Baytown, TX 77520 with Rev. Jason Shuttlesworth officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
