Although James traveled throughout his career, he always considered Baytown his home. He was married to Marshalyn Carrell Belk on August 28, 1981 and later divorced. His greatest joy was his daughter Ashley Michelle now married to Jeremy Barrett of Conroe.
James moved back to Baytown in 2012 after becoming disabled and retiring. He received his diploma from Lee High School and attended Lee College, both in Baytown. He also received a BS in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in 1980 and an MS in Management specializing in Information System Security in 2004 from Colorado Technical University.
James' interests were history, amateur radio, computer technology, baseball, and stamp collecting. James was a lifetime member of Jewett Masonic Lodge 427 in Jewett, TX. His wish was to have his ashes scattered in the Guadalupe River at its second crossing just outside New Braunfels, Texas.
James was preceded in death by his parents, as well as an older sister, Debra Belk. He is survived by his daughter and her husband as well as his granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Barrett of Conroe, Texas. Also surviving are his brother, John Belk, and sister, Patricia Schrock and husband David, all of Baytown.
A memorial service in honor of James will be held at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Christian Relief Fund at www.ChristianReliefFund.org.
