James Earl Partin, 84 of Baytown, Texas, passed away September 18, 2021. He was born in Pelly, Texas (Bush Terrace) on March 21, 1937 to Ralph and Gladys Partin. He was married to Wilma Joyce Parker for 61 years.
James had a career in coaching and teaching for 33 years in the Dallas area and GCCISD in Baytown. He was a long time member of Trinity Assembly in Baytown where he taught Sunday School and served as Deacon for several years. He had a passion for golf, tennis, yardwork, reading his Bible, and serving the Lord.
James is a 1955 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown. James attended Lee College in Baytown for 2 years. From there, he attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he received his degree in Physical Education with a minor in History. He received his Masters Degree at West Texas State University.
On May 31, 1958, he married the love of his life, Wilma Joyce Parker, one day after she graduated from Robert E. Lee. They were married three weeks short of 62 years with her sudden passing in May 2020. While working in a sporting goods store in Austin, James got his first coach and teaching job in Mesquite, Texas, Suburb of Dallas at Blanton Elementary in 1960. He remained there until August, 1966 when he moved back to Baytown. He became the Physical Ed Teacher and Coach at Cedar Bayou Junior High. He stayed there until 1977, when he received the opportunity to become the head tennis coach for the boy’s and girl’s team at Ross Sterling High School. He also taught freshman and sophomore Texas History. He remained there until his retirement in 1992. He really didn’t retire. For the next 19 years he taught, along with former Robert E. Lee Boy’s Head Basketball Coach, Leo Hechler, Drivers Education, until he decided to hang it up at age 74 in 2011. As a mentor James was kind, understanding, and firm when he needed to be. He did this without ever raising his voice. He helped many young men and women go the right path in whatever their careers took them.
James is preceded in death by his wife of almost 62 years, Wilma Joyce Partin, his parents Ralph and Gladys Partin of Baytown, Texas. Brother Wade Partin, sister-in-law Lee Partin of Baytown, Texas, brother Gerald Partin and sister-in-law Jean Partin of Baytown, Texas. Granddaughter Allison Partin of Cove, Texas.
He is survived by his son Brent Partin, daughter-in-law Pamela Partin of Houston, Texas. Son Lance Partin of Baytown, Texas, Son Dan Partin and daughter-in-law Tiffany Partin of Baytown, Texas, his three granddaughters, Avari, Emelie, and Zoey Partin of Baytown, Texas. Also many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation will be held on September 25, 2021 starting at 9:30 am at Trinity Assembly, 1008 E. Lobit Ave., Baytown, Texas 77520. A funeral service will follow beginning at 10:30 am.
