

Jerry Dee Hood was born on December 4, 1959, in Fort Riley, Kansas, to Donald and Delores (Hutson) Hood. As a young child, Jerry lived in many places, including the country of Panama, while her father served in the army. After her father retired from the military, the family settled down on a farm in Anutt, Missouri. One of Jerry’s favorite things to do on the farm was ride horses and she would often talk about the different horses she grew up with.
Jerry graduated from Salem High School in Salem, Missouri, class of 1978. After graduation, Jerry attended college and held various jobs. In 1979, she had a son, Brock Halbrook. Jerry and Brock moved to Oklahoma and Jerry got a job at the Conoco-Phillips headquarters in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. In 1991, Jerry had a daughter, Rachel Oestmann. Jerry worked for many years at Phillips before pursuing a career in teaching. In 2006, Jerry became a special education teacher. In 2007, Jerry moved to Texas where she continued to teach for the next 18 years before retiring in 2024.
Jerry’s hobbies included riding horses, reading books, making homemade Christmas ornaments and getting her nails done. In her later years, she also enjoyed selling various items on Amazon and raising and selling Chihuahua puppies.
Jerry was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Shaylynne Halbrook (24) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Emilie Halbrook (14) and Lizzie Halbrook (11) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Bradley Cumming (7 months) of Moorhead, Iowa.
Jerry also loved God and read her Bible on a daily basis. Jerry passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the age of 65, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children: Brock Halbrook of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Rachel (Robert) Cumming of Moorhead, Iowa; siblings Bill (Esme) Hood of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Judy (Jim) Doss of Coldspring, Texas, and Robin Hood of Anutt, Missouri as well as her 4 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
