Jerry Monkey Shepherd

Jerry ""Monkey"" Shepherd, 64, of Baytown was born May 9, 1949, in Baytown and passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, in a Houston hospital. He was a U. S. Army Viet Nam veteran and a member of the Patriot Guard, Wounded Warriors, V. F. W., and Harley Owners Group. He was a ""Jack of all trades"" and a NASCAR and NHRA enthusiast.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Lillian Shepherd. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Cassie Shepherd of Baytown; brothers and sister-in-law, Michael and Christine Shepherd of Baytown and Jimmy Shepherd of Lufkin; grandsons, Kendall Loftin and Kohlton Shepherd; nephew and girlfriend, Stacey Shepherd and Liza Simpson; cousins and spouses, Clyde Hall and Barbara of Victoria, Gary and Barbara Mercer of Shelby, MT, Terry Mercer of Houston, Barbara Mercer of Houston, Shirley Mercer Coleman of Splendora, Linda Mercer and James Reed of Houston, Vicki Mercer and Rick Woods of Mexico, Bruce Mercer of Highlands, and Robert and Kathy Mercer of Highlands; and a host of friends.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 30, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Gideon Watson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:15 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Shepherd, Stacey Shepherd, Danny Dubose, Robert Mercer, Michael Lambert, and Jodie McCullough. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Shepherd and members of the Patriot Guard.
