

He was born February 24, 1927 in Goose Creek to his late parents, Monroe D. Canon and Notie Irene Alexander Canon. He was a lifelong resident of the Baytown area, retired Field Maintenance Operator from Exxon after 38 years of service, member of the Central Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John enjoyed hunting and fishing. Music was a passion and he especially loved playing his harmonica. He shared this talent by playing at church and school activities as well as local nursing homes.
Mr. Canon was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Milton E. Canon and Gerald Canon. Survivors include his wife, Willie Ruth Canon of Baytown; son, Lynn Ross Canon and his wife Pati of Mont Belvieu; daughter, Linda LaBorde and her husband David of League City; brothers, Lanny Canon and his wife Edrie Mae of Magnolia and Glen H. Canon and his wife Rose of Waller; grandchildren, Staci Howell and Matt Howell of Houston and Zach Canon and Dyana Canon of Mont Belvieu and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Navarre Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 16, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Wells officiating. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Matt Howell, Zach Canon, Gary Novosad, Richard Whitaker, Jr., Chris Whitaker, Scott McManus and Mike Novosad. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Central Baptist Church.
