My grandfather truly was the best grandfather anyone could ask for and he made my childhood what it was.  Without my grandfather I would not be the man that I am today.  He would do anything for his family and I know he is smiling down on us now.

Grandpa,  you will always have a place in my heart and I will never forget the times we spent together on this world.

John ""Jake"" Martin was my grandfather.  He was a great man and always loved to spend time with my brother and I. The fondest memories I have with my grandfather is spending countless nights in Wimberly on the back porch drinking lemonade and watching the deer, shooting off fireworks for 4th of July, working the garden that he had built for us (fresh veggies!), and spending Christmas and Thanksgiving with him (my grandparents always bought way too many gifts for us for Christmas but they always knew how to make our holidays extra special)  

I always loved playing with his canes and every time I would visit my grandfather he would have little projects for us to do together like put together these little wooden planes that you could wind up and fly.

John R. Martin, my uncle, my mom's ""little brudder"" was a kind man who gave generously of his time, energy and caring.  He loved his sons beyond measure.   He and his wife Doris provided me with a model of a love and loyalty that lasted throughout their long marriage.  I will miss him.  He was a very good man and the world is better because he was in it.

My deepest sympathy to the Martin family. John (Jake) was one of the good guys and was like a second father to me. He and Doris always made me welcome in their home, sometime for weeks at a time. Jake was always there when needed while expressing enormous appreciation for the smallest gesture in return. Jake and Doris even stood-in as my parents at my wedding. Jake will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Hello my friends, my thoughts are with you this morning; remembering your dad's garage woodshop, backyard rockets, and hard wired remote control. Lots of good growing up fun and only a bicycle ride away. Our deepest condolences, Danny Wade Family.

My condolences and prayers to the Martin family.  I knew Mr. Martin (as I knew), he was my first supervisor in 1972 for Humble Oil & Refining Company.  He was a good person and fantastic supervisor.  May God bless you.

Our families shared our love for over fifty years, and today we share our memories. I pray for peace and comfort for each one.

Mr. Martin must have been a remarkably incredible man as he is the father of my dear friend, Jeff. I only know him through Jeff's remembrance. My thoughts are with you all. Peace and Love, Gina

Dear Mrs. Martin,
 
I can hardly remember a time in my growing up years where ""The Martins"" weren't a part of our family's close circle of friends. All the meals and memories we shared are too many to recount. 

A favorite memory of Mr. Martin was his keen interest in my job as a music teacher in my little Appalachian school.  There were very limited funds and Mr. Martin bought recorders for every fourth grade student.  I was so touched and so were they.  That is just one example of many where your family has encouraged me all through the years.

He was a wonderful man.  I loved him and I love you too.

I have the fondest memories of my lifetime visiting the Martin household.  Your family will be lifted in my prayers.  May you have peace and comfort.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Martin, Karl, Jeff, Corey, Don, and all of Mr. Martin's extended family and friends. May your love and memory of him comfort you in the days and months ahead.

Bill and I want to extend our deepest sympathies to John's family at this sad time.   I knew John at Exxon for many years.   I didn't know his family called him Jake...we called him John at work.
We will have his family in our thoughts and prayers.

You always would learn something new when you were with Uncle Jake.  Enthusiastic, with a hearty infectious laugh, he was a patient teacher and friend.


I remember  hot summer nights with the bug-zapper going while we all laid on lounges and chairs to be the first to spot satellites going overhead (most people didn't even know you could see satellites); or tracking ""varmints"" by night in Ingram with his varmint-calling tapes; or helping us kids to make Christmas tree forts;  or being at our house or his and Aunt Doris' house for shared family diners; and of course off to Baskin Robbins after the meal! 


While he will be missed, I for one won't remember him as the older Jake struggling through the last days of his life, but rather as the young ""Uncle Jake"" cutting up, having fun, teaching a lesson about this or that, and enjoying life.


""Thanks for the Memories Uncle Jake.""  We will miss you and will keep you in our memories and in our heart.
