Johnny Paul Massengill Sr., age 76, passed away on December 19, 2025. Born on June 14, 1949, in Beaumont, Texas, Johnny was known for his adventurous, beloved, brave, cherished, compassionate, devoted, faithful, generous, gentle, hard-working, humorous, kind-hearted, loyal, selfless, and thoughtful nature.
In his early years, Johnny was known for his mischievous exploits with his identical twin brother, Steve, as they created potholes with artillery shells and engaged in imaginative war games. A graduate of Vidor High School, Johnny enjoyed art class and was popular with the girls, due to his identical appearance with his brother.
After high school, Johnny was drafted into the Army, where he served as a dog handler at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He trained dogs to detect explosives and bravely participated in missions as a tunnel rat due to his small stature and agility. During his military service, he married for the first time and had three children.
Following his military career, Johnny worked in warehouses in shipping and receiving, where he was recognized as the hardest worker. His coworkers affectionately nicknamed him "Spark Plug" for his boundless energy. He married a second time and had three more children. After divorce, Johnny met Nancy, his true love, on a blind date. They dated for four and a half years before marrying, and he gained another daughter.
Johnny's life was filled with adventure and joy. He enjoyed fishing, supporting the Astros and Texans, playing softball, and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a deep love for his five dogs, especially Shadow, who remained by his side during his illness until he passed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bliss and Ima Jean Massengill; his identical twin brother Steve Massengill, Sr.; and his baby, Elydia Ann Massengill.

Nancy, Johnny's wife, shares her sorrow and love: "My heart is broken. I miss you already and will every day. You were my best friend, and I don't know what I'll do without you. You spoiled me and took such great care of me from the time we said 'I do' through my transplant until you were gone. I will still talk to you every day and ask what you think or what I should do. I hope I feel your answer. I love you so much, Johnny Paul, and always will."
