

Joyce J. Diaz, of Baytown, was born on April 19, 1947 at All Saints Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas, and peacefully went to be with the Lord from her home on May 6, 2008 surrounded by family. She was 61 years young.
Mrs. Diaz went to school in Ft. Worth and lived in Michigan for a time. She held an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, worked for the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice in Gatesville before she became a police officer for Baytown Police Department. In Baytown, she was the first female detective for the Police Department. She was also a founder of the Battered Women's Center and Rape Crisis Center for the City of Baytown. She received numerous citations and commendations for her outstanding work for the citizens of Baytown, including being recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
She was dearly beloved and will be missed by friends and family.
Mrs. Diaz was preceded in death by her parents, Claude B. Lane and Clara Gene Lane; brother, Jack Lane; sister, Leona Ebner; and granddaughter, Erica Nicole Diaz.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew F. Diaz of Baytown; son, Billy W. Pilant of Baytown; daughter, Jeanetta Anderson of Centerville, TX; stepchildren, Andrew F. Diaz, Jr. of Waco, Albert Diaz of Waco, Ben Diaz of Ft. Worth, Stella Johnson of Waco, Joann Sparkman of Waco and Zenobia Diaz of Temple; Twin sister, June Clelland of Orange, CA., brothers, Clifford Lane of Baytown, Claude Lane of Ft Worth and Butch McLouth of Wellston, MI and sisters, Susie Milligan of Attica, ID and Alice Allred of Ft. Worth.
Her large family also included 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and one on the way as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Navarre Funeral Home Chapel in Baytown.
