Karen Fayle was born on June 5, 1956 to Eugene and Mary F. “Tammy” Fayle of Baytown, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Baytown. Karen was affectionately known as KK to all her friends, family, and students but also known as “shrimp” to many others.
Karen was a graduate of Ross S. Sterling High School class of 1974 and attended the University of Houston-Clear Lake with a Bachelors of Science and then went back to UH Clear Lake for a masters degree in Child Psychology.
Karen retired from La Porte ISD where she was a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. She also worked for 10 years at Exxon in Baytown as a Lab Technician as well as for Judge Polumbo and Judge Coffey in Baytown as a Court Liaison and she worked for Harris County Children’s Protective Services. KK loved to watch sports whether it was on the TV or in person. She especially loved Softball. Although she was not a graduate of A&M, she was an Aggie at heart, and had a love for all things Coca-Cola, wild shoes, and baseball caps! She had a passion for all animals. She had a pet turtle named Fred that resides in his own oasis in the backyard and many sweet dogs and cats that have chosen her over the years. When she wasn’t enjoying her animals or watching a game, she enjoyed the peaceful pastime of fishing. She also had a passion for assisting students with special needs, the teachers enjoyed her coming into their rooms as much as the students did. She had a way of capturing students’ hearts and being an advocate for all kids.
She was a member of Cedar Bayou Grace Methodist church for many years.
Karen is preceded in death by her father Eugene “Gene” Fayle. She is survived by her two children, Mia Sanchez and husband Marin of Baytown, and Cooper Fayle of Baytown. Karen leaves behind two grandchildren, Alex and Angel Sanchez who were the light of her life and called her Nomi. She leaves behind her mother, Tammy Fayle and two sisters Cheryl Fayle and husband Rad of Baytown, and Kathy Hanks and husband Ernie of Cove. She is also survived by her niece, Kayce Prater and husband Jason, nephew Cade Sager and fiance Kimberlee Ceballos, nephew Conrad Ramquist and wife Torrey as well as several great nieces/nephews and many extended family members.
Karen will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, grandmother, friend, and mentor. Her sense of humor, integrity, compassion for others and her giving heart was unmatched. She was the kind of person who gave freely and loved deeply. Always up for an adventure, she had a creative soul and a beautiful way of thinking outside the box. She was a master editor, always ready to help with a paper, offer honest feedback, or simply listen with an open heart. Her wisdom, kindness, and fierce love for her family made her one of a kind. No matter what she was going through, she always had a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
