The family moved to Baytown when his father began working for the Humble Oil Company. Keith graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1957 and attended the University of Texas in Austin. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
On September 7, 1962, he married the love of his life, Donna Day. The two resided in Baytown for their entire life where they were active in the congregation of Memorial Baptist Church. Keith spent his life in service to the Lord and to the community. He served as a deacon and led Sunday morning bible study for more than 50 years at Memorial Baptist Church. Keith worked as Service Manager for Baytown Motors for 28 years which made him a fixture of the community. He spent a lot of his free time helping others. He was always willing to help those who could not help themselves and those who did not have someone to turn to for assistance. It was not uncommon for him to rescue someone with a broken-down car. Keith enjoyed working with his hands, teaching, reading, fishing, and good conversation.
Keith is survived by his wife Donna, his son, Brian Lawhon of Houston; daughter and son-in-law Leslie Lawhon and Mason West Sheffield of Conyers, Georgia; his three grandchildren Wesley Lawhon of Baytown, Tharon Elizabeth and Day Ann Sheffield of Conyers, Georgia; his sister, Geneta Smith of Baytown, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation with the family will be on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary at Memorial Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service celebrating Keith’s life at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randy Piatt officiating.
