

LaVaun Mary Carter, 78, of Baytown, TX passed away Saturday, January 28, 2006. She was born September 24, 1927 in Seattle, WA. She was an employee of Boeing Aircraft in Renton, WA. LaVaun was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol during WWII and met the love of her life, Quintlan Carter while he was stationed in Seattle, WA during WWII. She was a 40 year resident of Baytown and owned and operated Carter’s Floorcovering and Ceramic Tile with her husband Quintlan “Tack” Carter.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents, Harry D. and Mildred J. Hillis, adoptive parents, Paul and Margaret “Babe” Luce, brother, Warner Hillis, and sister, Joan Hedburg. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Quintlan “Tack” Carter of Baytown; daughters and sons-in-law, Renee L. and David Leitow of Kalkaska, MI, Terry L. and Joe Bernal of Baytown, and Karen L. and Steve Wittry of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren, Gene T. Hildebrandt II of Michigan City, IN, Thomas Hildebrandt of Baytown, Micah Bernal of Baytown, Alisha Contreras of Baytown, and Tracy Leitow of Mancelona, MI; great grandchildren, Jaime Tamayo Jr., Joshua Hildebrandt, Melody Hildebrandt, Gene H. Hildebrandt, Trace Bernal, Troy Bernal, Alyssa Bernal, Taylor Salazar, Kassandra Contreras, Nikolas Rodriguez, Brandon Leitow, and David Leitow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Micah Bernal, Travis Phillips Jr., Wiley “Bubba” Carter Jr., Abel Jimenez, Ricky Rodriguez, and Jose Montes. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Wittry, Gene T. Hildebrandt II, Thomas Hildebrandt, David Leitow, and Joe Bernal.
Her family will receive friends Wednesday at Navarre Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Chaplain Rogers Thomson officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery.
