

Lawrence M. Hayes, 88, of Baytown was born to Lawrence McKinley Hayes and Mary Claudien Hayes on October 8, 1920 in Knoxville, TN and passed away Friday, January 9, 2009 in a local healthcare facility. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher and MYF leader. He was a Troop #96 Boy Scout Leader. He went to work for Humble Oil and Refining in 1945 and retired April 1, 1987 and was an Exxon Annuitant. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in WWII from August 19, 1942 until August 19, 1945.
He was preceded by his parents and is survived by his wife of 66 years, Orlean Schoppe Hayes; son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Wilma Hayes; daughters and son-in-law, Kathy and Royce Williams and Cindy Wolf; grandchildren and their spouses, Scott Witt, Timmy and Laura Hayes, Michael and Ann Hayes, Deke and Connie Witt, Jason and LaDonna Smith, Heather and Jody Phillips and Joshua Wolf; and 14 great grandchildren.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services with military honors will be Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Proctor officiating. At his request, his body will be cremated afterwards.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main, Baytown, TX 77521.
