

Margaret Katherine Kerr Gainer, 92, of Beach City was born August 27, 1924, in Beaumont and went home Saturday, August 12, 2017. She graduated from Beaumont High School and then attended Charity Hospital/LSU where she graduated as an RN. She worked for numerous hospitals and nursing homes in Beaumont. In 1979, Margaret and her husband Hank moved to Beach City where she soon learned that being a housewife in an empty nest was no fun. She began volunteering for the City of Beach City office where she eventually took the position of City Secretary, which she held for 28 years before retiring in 2013. She was a member of Fisher Road Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen C. and Jessie Whiting Kerr; husband of 62 years, Henry James “Hank” Gainer; sisters, Aline Clark and Evelyn Odom; and brothers, Herschel J. Kerr and Neil C. Kerr. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jeanette Garner of Beach City, Deborah and Les Watson of Bartlett, Henry Jr. and Evelyn Gainer of Spicewood, Marilyn Harrison and Larry Conrad of Beach City, Evan Gainer of Beach City, and Karen Y'Barbo of Beaumont; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Steve C. and Bobbie Kerr of Beaumont; 19 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, August 18, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Charlie Flewellen officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont with Rev. Steve C. Kerr officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher French, Sr., Donnie French, Zachery Gonzales, Dustin Robins, John Robins, and Jimmy Gainer.
