

Margit Helga Christel Rutkowski Gonzales, 95, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. She was born on December 24, 1930, in Ortelsburg, Germany, to the late Alexander and Gertrud Rutkowski. She met the love of her life while he was serving in the Army in Germany and she followed him to the US where they built a life full of love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Margit pursued many interests, some of which included her love for sewing and showing her creative side. She also enjoyed working out in her flower garden where she found it to be the most peaceful. Margit found pleasure in the simple things of life, like just sitting out on the porch and listening to nature. In her younger days she loved to travel and would often go back home to visit family, or she would go to the Vegas Strip where she would try her luck gambling. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Margit was preceded in death by her husband John Gonzales; her parents; her sisters Hildegard Rutkowski Kreiman, Ursula Rutkowski Muth, and Ingred Rutkowski; her brothers Hans Rutkowski, Kurt Rutkowski, and Horst Rutkowski.
She is survived by her brother Manfred Rutkowski; her daughters Melanie Gonzales Zamora and Debbie Rennert and her husband Jim; her grandchildren Stephen Douglas Landry, Christel Marie Zamora, and Michael Anthony Zamora; sister-in-law Linda Hernandez, and sister and brother-in-law Gladys and her husband Benny Guerrero.
