After serving in the United States Army, he returned to Macon where he met and married his life's love, Virginia Marchetti, on April 17, 1948. To this golden marriage of 50 years, a daughter and two sons were born.
Maynard was a lifelong farmer until his retirement. He remained on the farm until September of 2006 when his health began declining. He then began a new adventure in his life by moving to Baytown, Texas to live with his son and daughter-in-law. After a four year, on-and-off battle with cancer, Maynard went home to be with the Lord, something he had been looking forward to for quite some time.
No matter how he felt, he never lost his sense of humor, and he never complained, even when it was evident he was in discomfort. He so enjoyed watching his baseball games. When the Houston Astros would play the St. Louis Cardinals, no matter the outcome, he would say, ""Well, my team won."" He was a good sport, not only about baseball, but about his situation as well. His last wish was to get to see his newest great grandchild before leaving (as he put it). Not only did he get to see him, he also got to hold him. This was just one of the many memories that were made, and we will miss him. We love you, Paw Paw.
Those that have gone on before him are: wife, Virginia Bork; parents, Shorty and Ruby Bork; brother, Gail Bork, killed in the Battle of the Bulge; sister, Geraldine Bork Tipton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Josephine Marchetti and niece Dixie Tipton Davolt.
Surviving are: daughter Deanna Clark of Macon, MO.; son and daughter-in-law Maynard and Connie Bork, Jr. of Baytown, TX. and son and daughter-in-law Michael and Linda Bork of McClellandtown, PA.
There are nine grandchildren: Brent and Erika (Bork) Levens of Texas, Aaron and Michelle Bork of Texas, Zane and Shelly Clark of Missouri., Lavern and Charlotte Clark of Missouri, Michelle Bork of Texas, Shawn and Lisa (Bork) Cunningham of Pennsylvania, David, Kenny, and James Bork all of Pennsylvania. He was blessed with ten great grandchildren. He also leaves one great-nephew, and two nieces.
Visitation for Maynard Bork, Sr. will be held Saturday, August 28th, 2010 at Greening, Egan, and Hayes Funeral Home in Macon, Mo. From 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Immediately following visitation, graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Macon.
