

Her formative years were spent in Orange where she attended Anderson Elementary, Carr Junior High and Lutcher Stark High School. In 1953, she entered North Texas State College (now UNT) in Denton, where she majored in Education with Speech and English as teaching fields. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
On August 25, 1956, she married Billy Wade Lucas of Sherman at the First Presbyterian Church in Orange. She continued her education and obtained her B. S. Degree in Education in June 1957.
After moving to Big Spring, she taught at the Big Spring Elementary and Junior High schools for 3 years.
Upon moving to Baytown in 1962, she taught at Robert E. Lee and substituted at several schools until 1964. After that time, she worked with her husband in the family insurance company.
Mildred was an emeritus member of the Baytown Pilot Club since 1977 and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved playing bridge and was a member of several clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 56 ½ years, Billy W. Lucas of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Jennifer Lucas of Corrigan; daughter, Cynthia Hill of Baytown; sisters, Dorothy Mackay of Baytown and Carolyn Hamby of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Kaylynn, Madison, Gage, and Allyson Lucas and Jaime, Alexandria, and Raegen Hill; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mildred had many true and devoted friends for one reason…she was a true and loyal friend. She was a kind and caring person, a real lady. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. When they were happy, she was happy. They will greatly miss their beloved ""Me Me"".
Mildred was a longtime cancer survivor, having her first of five different types of the disease in 1962. She was a 51 cancer survivor. Her family wishes to thank the caring doctors and staff at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for their many years of professional medical treatment and concern.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Friday, March 1, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3900 N. Main, Baytown, TX 77521 with Rev. Jim Gill officiating.
In lieu of usual remembrances her family requests that contributions may be made to the Bay Area Relay for Life, P. O. Box 758, Baytown, TX 77522 or the Faith Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 3900 N. Main, Baytown, TX 77521.
