

Olney Beltz, 85, of Baytown was born June 14, 1932, in Orange, TX and passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017. He was a graduate of Orange High School and attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA before graduating from Lamar University in Beaumont with a BBA. He was a standout football player all through high school and college and received an invitation from the Green Bay Packers to try out for their team but he declined the offer because “Green Bay was too cold”. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and coached football and baseball in the West Orange school district before starting his career with Gulf Oil in Orange. He was transferred to the Gulf Oil Cedar Bayou Plant in Baytown, now Chevron Chemical, in 1967 and then was transferred to Houston as a manager.
He used to have a camp in Toledo Bend, which he enjoyed with his friends from Orange. He enjoyed gardening and visiting, drinking coffee, and working out with his Baytown friends at the Lee College Wellness Center. He was a member of First Methodist Houston since 1969 and the Chevron Retiree Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. and Lois Beltz and his half-brothers, James Beltz and R. D. Lee. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Beltz and sons, Keith Wayne Beltz and Gary Bryan Beltz, all of Baytown; grandchildren, Hunter C. Beltz and wife, Denisse and Sofia Evans; niece, Linda Henshaw and husband, Bart; his dogs, Oscar and Sugars; and numerous friends in Baytown and Orange.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Friday, October 27, 2017 beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral to follow at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery, 2312 Irving St., West Orange, TX 77630, with Rev. John Warren officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Walter B. Hilliard III, Mick Weidner, Larry Strickland, Ted Swaim, Dr. Joe Brumfield, and Rodney Evans.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the First Methodist Houston Sanctuary Choir, 1320 Main St., Houston, TX 77002.
