

Oscar Calvin Rowan, 72, of Highlands, TX was born August 10, 1941 in Leakey, TX and passed away Friday, December 13, 2013, peacefully at his home. He was a U.S. Army veteran and the owner of Rowan Painting and Decorating. Oscar was fiercely competitive and enjoyed playing Texas holdem, 42, pinochle, chess, billiards, and washers. He was also the most generous of men and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Highly respected in our community and known as a legend by many, he was the best father, grandfather, husband, boss, and friend this side of heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John, Sr. and Mildred Rowan; wife of 37 years, Betty Jean Rowan; brothers, Gordon Rowan and J. B. Rowan, Jr.; and sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Jan ""J. T."" Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Rowan of Highlands; daughter, Juanita Rowan Finley and husband, Thurman, Jr. of Lynchburg; sons, Joseph Rowan of Highlands and Calvin Rowan and wife, Estella of Ingram; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Donnie Rowan and Douglas Rowan, all of Ingram and Patricia Ann Snider of Highlands; grandchildren, Carter Rowan Finley, Bethany Paige Cole, Samantha Nicole Green, Andrew Wofford, and Eric Rowan, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Monday, December 16, 2013 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Jeffers officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Leakey Floral Cemetery in Leakey, TX.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Rowan, Douglas Rowan, Jonathan Rowan, Joey Rowan, Brandon Rowan, and Rick Rowan.
