

Pat Mann, 79, of Baytown passed away peacefully Thursday, October 2, 2014, at his home. Pat was proud of his association with Baytown and the Humble Refinery where he was born on November 5, 1934. Pat's late father, Carl Ronald Mann, came to Baytown when the refinery was being built and his grandfather, Pat Bracken, was the first person to retire from Humble Oil and Refining Company.
Pat graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1951 then attended Lee College before earning Bachelor's of Science and Master's of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas.
He has been a registered engineer in Texas since 1962 and enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a lighting engineer. He received a Meritorious Service Award in 1966 from the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and was president of the Baytown branch in 1977 and 1978. He was awarded a Section Service award in 1992 from the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
A life long member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Pat was a longtime lay reader and served on the Parish Council and school library board.
Pat was a long-standing member of the Baytown chapter of the Lions Club. He was president of the chapter from 1999 to 2000 and served in various other roles. Pat was on the board of trustees of the Lions Eye Bank of Texas. He received a Distinguished Service award from the District Governors' association in 2009. Pat was director of the Humanitarian Relief Committee and Chairman of the District Presidents' and Secretaries' Council. He was a Pat Weich Fellow and Melvin Jones Fellow.
Pat also participated in Friends of Sterling Municipal Library, including terms as president, treasurer and secretary.
Pat was a strident supporter of Lee College and he is a FORMER-Lee life member. He also served on the board of the Bay Area Heritage Society. While attending the University of Texas, Pat was a member of the Newman Club, and served a term as president.
Pat was an Eagle Scout and was proud that all three of his sons were Eagle Scouts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Agnes Mann. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Mann of Baytown; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Patrick and Louise Mann of Austin, Ronald Joseph and Allison Mann of Brooklyn, NY, and Brian Mann of Spring; grandchildren and their spouses, Chance Ethan and Carri Mann of Magnolia, Hallie Kate and Darren Frazee of The Woodlands, Taw Wayne Mann of Long Beach, CA, Alexandra Zoe Mann and Amelia Catherine Mann, both of Brooklyn, NY, Amber Nicole Cantu of Daejeon, S. Korea, Amanda Marie Cantu of Denton, and Sarah Emily Messano and Marianne Messano, both of Austin; and great granddaughter, Madison Grace Biggert of Johnston City, IA.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 4:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be Monday, October 6, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1907 Carolina, Baytown, TX 77520 with Rev. Dwight Canizares officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at White Cemetery in Highlands.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dick Dawson, Frank Lundy, Tom Harrington, Dwayne Litteer, Daniel Krizak Kim Krizak, and Dr. Louis Hughes.
