He graduated from De Queen High School, Henderson State University and the University of Arkansas with degrees in English and Art. Graduate work at University of PA. and University of Missouri. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Bennie Cooper, grandparents, Wade and Bertie Cooper.
He is survived by his daughter Carrie and husband Kurt of Bellingham, WA., brother, Dennis Cooper of Hot Springs, sisters Jimna Craig and husband Clovis of De Queen and Brenda Cooper of Baytown TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
