

Phyllis graduated from Lovelady High School in 1967 and continued her education at Lee College and the U of H at Clear Lake. Upon graduation, she started her teaching career in the Galena Park School District. She was later employed by Goose Creek CISD for 19 years and retired as an educator in December 2004 from De Zavala Elementary.
Phyllis was a very active member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church where she volunteered and served in many different positions. Some of her favorite ministries at CBBC were the Angel Tree Ministry, which helped families with a meal and the children with gifts at Christmastime and the Food Pantry. She was currently the secretary of the Children's Department of CBBC and was a teacher in the GA program. Children had a very special place in her heart. She would always be willing to help a child if they couldn't afford clothes or just the basic necessities. She was past president of the Baytown Aggie Moms Club and her sorority Alpha Delta Kappa. Phyllis was a member of the Baytown Retired Teachers Association and the ExxonMobil Retiree Club.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her grandmother, Zoe Smith; mother, Patricia Fronatt; and brother, Brent Harrison. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Billy Pounds of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Brenda Pounds of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Alan Cummings of Baytown; sister and brother-in-law, Terrie and Hank Lund of Sapulpa, OK; aunt and uncle, Zoe and Jim Aldrich of Cathedral City, CA; and grandchildren, Emma, Abby, Kate, and Mary Claire Pounds.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, 3116 N. Alexander, Baytown, TX 77520 with Dr. Mark Broussard officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Phyllis loved serving the Lord, being with her family, and spending time at White Rock Creek near Trinity, TX. She was a very caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, and friend who will be missed by many. Serving the family as honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Cedar Bayou Baptist church Building Fund, 3116 N. Alexander, Baytown, TX 77520 or the charity of one's choice.
