Robert “Bob” Doyle Cryer, 74, of Baytown was born October 11, 1943 in Baytown, TX and passed away Friday, November 10th 2017. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School class of 1962 and attended Lee College.
Bob’s lifetime passion was golf. He could be found there most days perfecting his score. Countless tournaments were won over his lifetime, but 2 of his proudest moments came later in his golf career; winning the State Title at the American Golf Association Championship finishing 12 under par with 63 and 65 rounds and the honor to caddy at the Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship. His late father-in-law, Henry Clay Swain Sr., introduced him to golf and he quickly became a fan and soon found he was a naturally gifted golfer.
His parents, Everett and Iva Lee Cryer, both of Baytown, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Swain Cryer, son Christopher Cryer of Baytown, daughters Lorie Cryer of Houston and Misty Johnson and husband Bryan of Phoenix; grandchildren Ella and Jace Johnson, brothers Ronnie Cryer and wife Sherry of Kerrville, and Harold Cryer and wife Geri of Dayton, niece and nephews, Lisa, Lance and Timmy Cryer.
The family would like to give special thanks to caregiver Nora Herman for her love and support during Bob’s last days at home.
Please remember Bob by donating to one his favorite charities, First Tee, which inspires the love of golf in today’s youth. Please visit http://www.thefirstteegreaterhouston.org and consider a financial or equipment donation.
The golf course was his second home, and a fitting place to celebrate his life and pay tribute to his love of the game. Please join us Tuesday, November 28th for a remembrance gathering at Stonebridge at Newport Country Club, 16401 Country Club Drive, Crosby, TX. Family and friends will gather in the Bar & Grill between 3:30 - 6:00pm, and a Twilight Tee-off and Toast will follow immediately after.
