Bob was a great friend and mentor to me during his time in Melbourne. His technical knowledge and candor were a great inspiration. My fondest memories were watching the cricket at the MCG, and having Bob and Sue attending my wedding. God Bless.


I remember Bob when he worked with his dad at the tackle shop in Rochester and when I did some work for the family at there home. A fine young man and he will be missed by all who knew him. God bless the family and give them strength.

Even so many years after he was here in Australia we remember Bob well, both the quality of his work and the manner in which he did it.  Condolences to his family.

It was with great shock and sadness that I learned yesterday of Bob's sudden passing. I first met Bob when he was seconded 'downunder' to Australia on assignment in the early '90's,and then continued working with him as part of the global BCCAN network of which he was a driving force. Bob was incredibly energetic and knowledgeable,  and unfailingly enthusiastic in all his endeavours. He was a terrific mentor for many control engineers during his time at Altona.

I worked with Bob on and off over the years. He was always honest and helpful. It is a real shame that he has left us. My sincerest condolences to his family and to all of us who will miss him dearly.

Sue and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.  Bob was very excited about becoming the ExxonMobil Cycling Team Safety Coordinator this year.  His detailed nature was obvious in his initial planning of our safety program.  

Bob shared his love of cycling with everyone that would listen.  Whether it was telling of his recent cycling adventure, or the many times the two of you helped on one of our club rides - he will not be forgotten.  Please take comfort in knowing the world is a better place because Bob was here with us, albeit for too short a time.

When I met Bob in NJ 34 years ago, I knew he and I would see eye to eye… within ExxonM and on the personal side. From then it got even better: Darlene and I will surely miss him and our special bond. His expertise in control engineering excellence resulted in insistence for a job well done…always. Bob had a strong work ethic, atypical candor (for Exxon Politicos), and a passion for everything he did. We cannot count the number of lives that Bob has touched during his days.

It was a shock to hear about Bob's sudden death on Tuesday.  Bob was an amazing engineer and friend.  It was his energy, knowledge, and an  incredible ability to take detailed notes that was a key factor in the founding and initial years of our internal process control network (called BCCAN).  The newsletter that he used to produce for the network (which he named the ""BEACON"") was a work of art -- printed at home on your PC printer (as we couldn't print color documents at work).  Over the past few years, it was great to have Bob just down the hall from me.  Unfortately, my job kept me on the road, but I always stopped by for a chat (and a learning experience) when I was in the office.  It's something I've missed since his retirement, and something I'll miss now forever.  A huge loss!!

I knew Bob, as a friend and teammate, and he will always have a place in my heart. He  was not just a great friend but was also a mentor and sounding board.  Over the course of the years Bob tought me many lessons that I will carry with me thoughout the course of my life.  

Bob always stood by me in all the difficult times and made sure that I never gave up and learned from my mistakes.  

I will miss the phone calls that started with ""Hey Kid"", and hearing the laughter in his voice whether he was discussing a work issue or just calling to chat about his biking adventures and the precious moments he spent with his family and grandson.

Bob and I worked together during the early days of the PMX migration project.  I enjoyed working with him and admired him for his professionalism and candor.  I just recently had several conversations with him about his retirement plans and how he might work as a sub-contactor with my company, Maverick Technologies.  I am sorry he didn't get to enjoy his retirement as he should have.  Please accept my heartfelt condolences and you and he are in my prayers.

It was with great sadness that I heard about Bob's sudden and tragic passing, particularly as you were both just settling into the retirement phase of your lives together.

I had the pleasure of working with Bob during the startup and initial operational phases of the Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP) here in Scotland. Bob was a great asset to our team and he made an outstanding contribution to the process control systems of the plant.

I know that you both enjoyed your stay in Dalgety Bay, Scotland and it was my privilege to have known you both.

We had the honor of working with Bob on the PMX replacement project in Meerhout, Belgium, from 2004 thru 2008. We got to know and appreciate him for his enormous enthusiasm, his great work ethic, his unambiguous communication and his inspirational leadership. He is the kind of man that leaves an impression everywhere he goes.
We were devastated when we heard of his passing away. It came as a complete shock to us.

Dear Sue,

What a shock to our family.  I remember Robie (it's funny to hear everyone call him ""Bob"") scaring me to death as my much older cousin because he was always 6ft tall and had lots of facial hair!  He called me ""Peanut"" and I loved him for it. 

 He was a wonderful cousin and always went out of his way for the family.  He flew in to NJ for my wedding.  I haven't seen him in so long but I will miss him dearly.

Sue, I was very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I still have very fond memories of ""Spider"" at RU.  He will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Bob, your energy, no-nonsense,   crystal clear and above all candid and honest approach has always been your greatest quality. I like to think of it as hallmark of the company you served so well. In fact, you helped make this company a great one. You will be missed very much.

I was always impressed by Bob's enthusiasm and commitment to make our products (Honeywell) more successful for XOM implementation and other customers.  It was evident that he applied the same in everything he did.

Perhaps God noticed the same and that's way he was taken so early.  It wouldn't surprise me if he was already making suggestions to make the place better....

Last week I had the privilege of discussing the safety program for the ExxonMobil Cycling Team with Bob.  I was impressed by his commitment to and enthusiasm for ensuring the safety of his team mates - indeed for all of the cyclists involved in our training program.  When I became aware of his passing I was saddened by the loss - personally, for the cycling team, and for his family.  I wish to extend my condolences to Susan  and to the rest of Bob and Susan's family for this tragic loss.  The world has become a less friendly place with his passing.

My sincere condolences to Bob's family. I have known Bob for more than 16 years and his passion for his job never weakened. I remember him during the early BCCAN days as capable of simultaneously listening to a presentation, making pertinent comments, asking questions, cracking good jokes while taking amazingly accurate minutes of the meeting. His willingness to share his knowledge and his dedication to perfection were outstanding. I'll miss our friendship.

Sue and Girls - We are just so terribly sorry. Bob was a special person. He was caring and funny. Our Rutgers days would have been lacking without him.If it wasn't for him, Arthur and I would not be celebrating our 34th anniversary next year. Even though he was far away, he meant so very much to us. He touched so many lives.

Bob made a an indelible impression on his co-workers. He was the kind of person whose personality and upfront honesty made him a role model to reference in our minds as we face the daily challenges of our own lives.

Soon after I first joined Exxon in 1985, BOP had a major turnaround.  During the shutdown, the console technicians were having trouble with one of the major pieces of equipment.  Bob gave explicit instructions in how to take the machine down in the proper manner.  Normally technicians shun this kind of advice but they were sincerely amazed at how well the state of the machine and process was after the shutdown.  It was this kind of detailed process knowledge that made Bob such a good engineer.  While not an easy person to work with, he was an honest and upright soul who was always trying to improve the bottom line and was a person who could be counted on to complete his work.  Having worked with him on and off for my entire career including just recently, I will miss him.

Bob will be missed dearly.  I shared many lunches with Bob and got to enjoy his company and travel stories from all around the world. May God bless his soul.

Big Bob as he was known in our family will always be remembered as one of the most kind men I have ever met.  When he and Sue came to the shop everyone was happier by the time they left.  I am very fortunate to have known Bob Gilmore and will always remember his generosity and fondness of life.  He rode his bicycle like he was 15 every time he got on it.  The world will not be the same without him.
