Robert Paul “Bob” Guill died on March 24, 2018, at the William R. Courtney Veteran’s Nursing Home in Temple, Texas. He was born in Kerrville, Texas to Paul and Elizabeth Guill and was the oldest of four children. Bob is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Guill, his sister, Sharon Guill, brothers, Tim and Geoffrey Guill and his sister in law, Kathy Guill. He also leaves nephews, Daniel Guill and Austen Guill and nieces, Ashley Guill McCabe, her husband, Sam McCabe and Erin Guill. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Eugene Guill.
Bob had an especially gifted sense of humor and his brothers and sister have always agreed that he was the smartest of the Guill children. After World War II, he lived with his parents in Stuttgart, Germany as part of the allied occupation force from 1947 until 1950. By the age of five, his German was so good that his parents relied on him to translate their conversations with the family maid and other German citizens.
Bob graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1962. Immediately after graduation he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Thereafter, he obtained his bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin University. He was an avid reader and an accomplished chess player, but he will forever be remembered for his sharp wit and his uproarious sense of humor.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1907 Carolina St., Baytown, Texas 77520, with Rev. Edmund Eduarte officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
