THE BEST DOCTOR
Our wonderful and beloved Dad, Robert (Bob) Eugene Hill passed away on July 15, 2006. His passing was so unexpected, but we rejoice that he is now with our Heavenly Father. We will remember our Dad for his strength, strong faith, unbelievable love, but most for his unwavering guidance he gave us as we grew up. Dad’s birth date was August 7, 1922. He was born in Austin, Texas and raised in his home, which is now part of the campus of the University of Texas. He graduated from Austin High School at the age of fifteen. He attended the University of Texas at Austin until he entered the U.S. Army where he proudly served in WWII, stationed in Italy. After serving five years, he entered pharmacy school at the University of Texas at Austin. He was a pharmacist at Jones’ Drug Store in Baytown where he met our Mom, Jimmie Lee Fayle. They married in 1949. After two years of being a pharmacist, Dad was able to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. He graduated in 1956 from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he was President of AKK fraternity. Upon graduation, he served his internship at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, Texas. In 1957, the year before we were both born, Dad started his practice in partnership with Uncle Percy (the late Percy R. Fayle) in Baytown. In 1959, Dad, Uncle Percy and four other local physicians formed a corporation to start Gulf Coast Hospital where life-long friendships were made. In 1992, Dad retired from his office practice but continued his doctoring throughout the state of Texas in the Locum Tenoms program.
Dad was a member of the East Harris County Medical Association, a life-time member of the University of Texas Alumni Association, served on the Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association (Baytown Chapter), served on the Board of Directors of the Baytown Youth Fair Association and supported the Baytown Texas Exes. He gave back to these programs with many contributions.
For years Dad enjoyed being the team physician for both Lee and Sterling High Schools. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, raising horses and gardening. Many times, Dad would take his produce to his patients and staff at the hospital.
Dad has left behind our Mom, Jimmie Lee, his children, Robert (Bo) Hill, Kay and her husband, Jim Glandt, and Beverly and her husband, Wayne Mire. He was adored by his grandchildren, Laine, Jimbo, Mimi, Bailey, great grandchild, Anthony Christian, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his two grandsons, Jimbo Hill and Bailey Glandt, his son-in-law, Jim Glandt, and four nephews, Sid Thomas, Herb Thomas, Dr. Bob Fayle and Gene Fayle.
Honorary pallbearers will be the founding doctors of Gulf Coast Hospital, Mandy Morales, nephews Don Baughman, Dr. Charles Hill, John Hill, Josh Hill and dear friends, Charles Tillery, Dr. Charles George and Dr. William Holder.
Our family will welcome friends at Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 304 N. We always said that Dad had “orange” blood. It was a fact that Dad protected, promoted, and supported the University of Texas in every way. We can proudly say that Dad went out with his “Longhorns” as National Champions!
Arrangements are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX, 77521, (281) 422-8111.
