Roy Theophilus Bent Sr., was born on June 15, 1940, in Manchester, Jamaica, to James Bent and Lettricia Bent (Denton). An ever-faithful servant of God, he was peacefully called home for eternal rest on August 3, 2023, with his family by his side.
Roy was the youngest of seven children born to James and Lettricia: Eufena, Lilly, Mazy, Glenn, Lebert and Easton. Roy spent his childhood and teenage years in Manchester on his family farm. In his early adult years, he moved to Kingston to further pursue his passion for body repair work. It was in Kingston, where he would meet the love of his life and who would eventually be his loving wife of 38 ½ years, Pamela Dacres.
Roy and Pamela entered into holy matrimony on May 25, 1967. It was a blessed marriage that would bear five children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In 1968, Roy and Pamela moved their growing family to St. Croix, USVI, for a better job opportunity with Chicago Bridge. Being a man who always wanted the best for his family, he temporarily moved to Texas in the mid-70s to begin laying the foundation for what would become his American dream for his family. By the late 70s, Roy and Pamela moved their family to Baytown, Texas. Roy worked for many prominent body shops throughout his career and was often a mentor for other body repairmen.
Being a man firmly rooted in his faith, Roy accepted Christ in his life in 1983. He would eventually serve as a Deacon for Central Church of Christ, of which he was a faithful member for over 40 years. Simply and affectionately known to his brothers and sisters in Christ as “Brother Bent,” Roy was always happy to be of service to his church and community.
Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife Pamela, his parents James and Lettricia Bent; his siblings Eufena, Glenn and Lilly; his daughter Sandra Bent and his granddaughter Patricia Lewis.
Left behind to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his children: Louane Bent, Lorraine Bent, Roy Bent Jr. (Medina) and Tracy Russell (Edward); his grandchildren: Trish Bent (Billy Green Jr.), Troy Panteau (Katalina), Christopher Thomas Jr. (Allison Lyons), Jessica Bent, Cassandra Lewis, Nicholas Bent, Adalynn Russell and Canaan Russell; his great-grandchildren: Davion Bent, Ja’Nya Brown, Remi Panteau and Apollo Panteau; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives. Of close relation Delphine Forbes and family, Emile and Virginia John Hope, O'Neal and Gwen Roberts, Thomas Haynes, Jesse Felder and Elizabeth Samuel and family.
The family would like to extend our most sincere gratitude and love to his Christian family at Central Church of Christ, his caregivers Sister Camilla Lynch and Jacqueline Joseph.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Central Church of Christ located at 1004 Market St, Baytown, Texas, 77520. The funeral service will follow at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Upon conclusion of the funeral service, the procession will depart the church for interment at Earthman Memory Gardens located at 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas, where we will lay “Papa Roy" to rest alongside his wife, Pamela.
