Ruth Elaine (Creel) Gard, age 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 16, 2023. Ruth was born April 21, 1945 in Winnfield, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Lelwyn Creel; husband of 11 months, William (Billy) Robertson; brother, John Creel; sister, Jenna Gates; and brother, Joseph Creel.
Ruth is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Garry Gard; her daughter, Gina Crozier (Doug); granddaughters, Sydney Crozier and Katelyn Crozier; sister, Sarah Sanders; brother, Porter Creel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth moved to Baytown, TX from Winnfield, LA in 1967 to pursue a license in cosmetology. It was there that she met Garry and they married six months later in February, 1968. She held various jobs over the span of 27 years, which included a beautician, part time work for the Goose Creek ISD and a full time position at Harlem Elementary where she retired after 17 years. Ruth spent her entire life serving others. From a young girl, helping to attend to family needs, to assisting friends and doing work in her church in her later years. She loved preparing meals and visiting with shut-ins, working in the kitchen during church functions, and teaching children’s Sunday school for many years. She had a great love and talent for sewing. She spent countless hours at her sewing machine making clothes and crafts for family and friends. Ruth was kind and loving, always putting others first. She always had a smile on her face and her smile and presence would light up a room. She was a blessing to everyone who knew her. All throughout her long illness, Ruth’s sweet spirit and gentle, loving and kind nature remained steadfast.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all family, friends and caregivers that have spent countless hours helping us through this difficult journey.
