Ruth Henderson

Ruth Chandler Henderson, 86, of Baytown passed away Monday, August 24, 2009 at home. Born in Laurel, MS on April 4, 1923, she moved to Baytown with her family in 1926. She gradated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1941.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lauren M. Henderson; brother, Chester Chandler; sisters, Virgie Dee Lirette, Helen Nelson and Heedie Seago; and grandson, Lauren David Muckelroy. She is survived by her daughter, Dee Muckelroy, and sons and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Sandy Henderson and Richard Henderson, all of Baytown; brother and sister-in-law, George and Freda Chandler of Baytown; sister, Myrtle Walker of Houston; grandchildren, Johnny Henderson of Conroe, Greg Henderson of Baytown, Donna Guthrie of Cypress, Eric Henderson of Dallas and Chet Henderson of Baytown; 7 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Henderson was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Baytown since 1941, where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Prayer Group. She loved her church and her church family. She was a charter member of the Wooster Circle, which was formed in her home. She was a life member of the Friends of Lee College and a life member of the George and Freda Chandler Arboretum and a member of the ExxonMobil Retiree Club and the Baytown Senior Citizen Club. She was also a founding member of the Bay Area Quilt Guild. She was very talented in sewing, quilting and all craftwork but her true passion was being with her children and grandchildren. Her children came over anytime they wanted to, but Mondays and Thursdays were Mother's days. They had great times around her kitchen table. She never got around to writing the book ""Around the Kitchen Table"", but what a book that would have been.

Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Proctor and Rev. Linda Tolon officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Henderson, Greg Henderson, Kelly Guthrie, Rusty Sparks, Gary Sparks, Eric Henderson and Chet Henderson and honorary pallbearers will be members of her Fellowship Sunday School Class.
