

Shirley Jean Erwin, 70, of Baytown, peacefully passed to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday morning, October 20, 2013 in Houston. She was born Shirley Jean Spears, August 22, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to her late parents, C. D. Spears and Myrtle Kooda Spears, and had lived in the Baytown-Highlands area for 62 years.
Shirley was a payroll supervisor with the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District, with over 30 years of service, and was actively involved in numerous church and service organizations through the years, including Society of Helping Hands, Christian Women's Club, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and Journey to Damascus Ministry.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, with her sisters and her friends, cooking, reading, travelling, and watching Texans' and Rockets' games. Her faith, family, and friends, were paramount in Shirley's life, as evidenced by the number of lives she positively impacted. Moreover, Redeemer Lutheran Church was a crucial central point for her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and by her brothers, Clayton Spears and Ralph Spears.
Survivors include: her son, David Erwin and his wife Kim of Baytown; daughter, Lori Erwin of Austin; grandchildren, Michael, Jared, Erika and Rachel Erwin; sisters, Marilyn Hopper and her husband Jack of Beaumont, and Beth Harris and her husband Chuck of Baytown; sister-in-law Melba Spears; numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are essential life-long friends, Nancy Hively and husband Ronnie, Jeannine Ferrell and husband Mike, and Francis Erwin and husband Paul, as well as Fran Simon, and her numerous other friends and co-workers in the school district.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Navarre Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2013 at Mrs. Erwin's longtime church home, Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1200 E. Lobit, Baytown, Texas 77520, with Pastor Raymond Van Buskirk officiating.
