Syble Harlow was born Syble Ann Myers on May 3, 1943 to Sherdon Myers and Delia Jane Roberts Myers in Bassfield, Mississippi as the ninth of ten children. Syble was raised by her grandparents in Prentiss, Mississippi from age 2 to age 15, and then by her eldest sister, Eloise and late brother-in-law Patrick Broussard in Lafayette, Louisiana. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1961. She married her husband, James H.V. Harlow in 1964 and moved to Coronado, California before moving to Baytown, Texas in 1967 after Jim’s active duty in the Navy was completed. While in Baytown she became the mother of James C. Harlow.
Her next move was to Aruba, where Mark L. Harlow was born. Syble was an active golfer and she enjoyed travel to Curacoa, Bonaire, Caracas, and Maracaibo in the Aruba Flying Club aircraft. In 1974 she returned to Baytown and was an active photographer and painter.
Health issues dogged her later years. She was a breast cancer, skin cancer, diabetes, gall stone and heart-attack survivor. Her bout with kidney disease was terminated, unfortunately, by yet another heart-attack two weeks after her 52nd wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1945; her father; three brothers, Mac Myers, David Baker, and Charles Myers; four sisters, Eloise Broussard, Jane Dosset, Octavia Williams, and Betty Waters. Betty died in February 2016.
Syble leaves behind her husband Jim; sons, James and Mark; daughter-in-law, Kim Mlcak Harlow; granddaughters, Hannah, Hope, and Haven Harlow; grandson, Harrison Harlow; and sisters, Jean Stovall of Columbia, Mississippi and Katheryn Leonard of Milton, Florida.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 beginning at 9:00 am with funeral services at 11:00 am at Earthman Funeral Home. She will be interred at Cedar Crest Cemetery, 3010 Ferry Rd, Baytown, TX 77520.
