

Capt. Thomas Echols, Sr., 82, of Highlands, passed away on Dec. 26, 2012. He was born in Baytown, on April 25, 1930, and employed by Bacon Towing until starting his own tug boat business in 1972. At his time of death, he was still actively working four boats. He enjoyed fishing and playing 42 with fellow church members. He served on various church boards and was involved in his BOB (Band Of Brothers). His passion, other than fishing, was serving God and living his life as an example to others. He was a great leader. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Echols; daughter, Rebecca Ruth Echols, mother, father and siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Echols; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Sherry Echols of Friendswood; daughter and partner, Rhonda Echols and Phyllis Doskocil of Highlands; daughter, Gail Echols of Pearland, grandchildren, Kami Elam and husband Travis, Crystal McCarty and husband Eric, Stephanie Thompson and husband Colby, Sabrina Kadas and husband Justin and Mallory Doskocil; great-grandchildren, Colbie Lynn Thompson, London Renae Elam, Temperance Faith McCarty, Jameson Exley McCarty and Kennedy Grace Elam and numerous other extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Earthman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at First Assembly of God, Dayton, TX, with Brother Charles Pierce and Brother Robert Wilson officiating. Interment will be on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at 3:00 p.m., at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Capt. Marshall Weir, Capt. Jerry Inman, Capt. Norman Nolan, Ricky Batson, Danny Johnson and Charles Torrence. Honorary pallbearers will be Orville Locklear and Randy Russell.
