

He was born to Thomas Claud and Lillian Mote Smith on October 14, 1920 in Rice, Texas. He moved to Goose Creek, Texas in 1921. He was a 1940 graduate of Cedar Bayou High School. As a member of the varsity football team, he was named all-district tackle. He proudly served his country in World War II as a Seabee in the Navy, Stationed in Kaneohe, Hawaii. He participated in the liberation of Guam. He went to serve in the Air Force Reserves during the Korean War. He retired from Exxon-Mobil after 42 years of service. He was a member of Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge #321 and Old River Baptist Church. His greatest joy in life was traveling, especially when he returned to Hawaii with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Earl Smith; and daughter, Sandy Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elmira Smith; brother, Kenneth and Dimple Smith; sister-in-law, Edwina Campbell, all of Baytown. His surviving children are daughter, Sharon and Robert Osgood; son, Thomas Bryant and Debbie Smith, all of Baytown. Grandsons are Steve and Judy Osgood of Old River, Mike and Deana Osgood and Jeffrey Smith of Baytown, Brett Smith of Houston. Granddaughters are Penny and Paul Knight of Spring, and Patti and Kirk Calma of Baytown. Great-grandchildren are Jacob, Sarah, Blake, and Brad Osgood, Amanda Vasquez, Sandy Ray, Brian and A.J. Knight, and Samantha Calma. Also surviving are several special nieces and nephews.
He left a legacy of love and Christianity to all his children. The family would like to thank Regency Hospice for their care and support during this time.
The family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home, officiated by Danny Biddy, pastor of Old River Baptist Church. Burial will follow at The Masonic Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brett Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Steve Osgood, Mike Osgood, Paul Knight, and Kirk Calma. Honorary Pallbearer is nephew, Gordon Smith, of Baytown.
