William Wayne Herndon Sr.

William Wayne Herndon, Sr., 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jan. 17, 2012. He was born on April 11, 1922, in Nixon, TX. He served four years in the Army in Hawaii: 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, and on Guadalcanal 1942 and 1943. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church sine 1943 and served as a Stephen Minister. He was also one of the Trustees on the finance committee and in charge of the Ushers. He was also a member of Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #1192, Arabia Temple and Scottish Rite of Houston, The Baytown Shrine Club and the Baytown Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his lovely wife of 56 years, Betty Frank Herndon and his sisters, Margaret Weid and Norma Herndon Weid and brother O.T. Herndon.

He was raised in the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, TX. He worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company and Exxon Mobil for 35 ½ years.

He married Betty Frank Stovall in 1943. They had two lovely sons, William Wayne Herndon, Jr. on Dec. 15, 1944, and Robert Frank Herndon on May 14, 1947. He has four grandsons, Bill Herndon, Jim Herndon, Wayne Herndon III and Mark Herndon; one granddaughter, Katie Ruth Herndon; nine great grandsons and two great granddaughters.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at Earthman Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
