His parents, Mr. & Mrs. William B. Yardley and his brother Charles B. Yardley of Columbus, Ohio preceded him in death as well as his wife Wilma (Beanie) Noble Yardley. Born in Columbus, Bill Yardley graduated from the Ohio State University High School in 1940 having served as president of the senior class. After serving in World War II as a B-17 “Flying Fortress” Pilot with the U.S. Air Force, he attended Ohio State University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and graduated with a PhD in Education. Dr. Yardley’s career in education and administration included college posts in Ohio, Louisiana, Illinois, and Wichita Falls, Texas, culminating in Houston serving as Vice President of Student Life at the UH from 1963-1970. Next the family moved to Naples, Florida where he was Director of Guidance and Counseling at Naples High School until 1992 when he retired. He was a champion racquetball player, loved swimming and walking on the beach, fine dining, the Big Band sound and summers at Camp Kawanhee in Weld, Maine as a camper, counselor, and staff member along with his wife, Beanie. Bill Yardley touched and enriched many lives throughout his personal and professional life. Several years after retiring, he returned to Houston to be close to family because he had begun the journey of Alzheimer’s. His four children, Ellyn Sollars, Jan Yardley, Lou Margulies and Chris Yardley, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, survive him. Dr. Yardley would be sure to say, “It was a good go!” The family suggests that remembrances be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Memorial services will be held in Ohio and Florida.
