It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Amada ‘Mayo’ Martinez Collazo, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Mayo passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at the age of 91 in Fort Worth, Tx. Mayo was always very faithful, caring, and loving towards her family and friends. She touched the lives of so many people over the years.
She was born on February 24, 1934, in Beaumont, Texas, to Charles and Alejandra Martinez. Mayo was always happiest around her family; especially her mother, sister, children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She loved watching her grandson, Luke, play baseball in high school. She also adored her great granddaughter, Marlee, and loved hearing about her adventures. She was an avid Rangers fan and joked that Nelson Cruz was her son. She loved cooking Mexican food for her family, especially tamales for the holidays. And, stuffed Chile Rellenos for our birthdays. She loved plants and gardening just as her mother did.
Mayo graduated from St. Anthony Catholic High School and was very proud of her school. She was in the St. Anthony Drum and Bugle corps, and she was still in touch with several of her high school friends in her later years. One friend said that she would gather the troops for a get together every time she came back to Beaumont to visit, and they always had a great time.
She was married to Richard Collazo and raised five children with him in Port Arthur/Groves, Texas. She worked at Bruce’s Market Basket and was an administrative assistant for several companies throughout her career. She retired from MHMR in Beaumont. She enjoyed volunteering at her church and was a deeply faithful Catholic. Her greatest gift to her children was ensuring their faith in the Lord and completion of the holy sacraments. She had a very special love for the Lord and it was easy to see in her actions and attitude towards others.
She is survived by her five children and spouses - Stephen Collazo, Janis Collazo, Dorcas Collazo Paden, Jack Collazo, Tracy Collazo, Mark Collazo, Anna Collazo Buchanan, and Bruce Buchanan. Also, nine grandchildren- Justin, Stephen, Leah, Kristina, Alexx, Avery, Thomas, Aaron, Luke, and one great granddaughter, Marlee. She was preceded in death by her mother Alejandra Perez Martinez and sister Dolores Martinez. She will be missed dearly and will forever be in our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica of Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont.
