

Arthur Fulton Mack, Jr. was born on March 30, 1926 to Arthur Fulton Mack and Leah Babineaux Mack in Beaumont, Texas. He attended school in Fannett and graduated in 1943. His first job was with Lummus Contruction then worked for several months at the Pennsylvania Shipyard. In the spring of 1945 he went to work for Jefferson County as dump truck driver. On May 6, 1957 Fulton started his final job at Texas Gas Corp. The company was known as Merichem Refinery when he retired in March of 1989. He passed away on February 17, 2017 at his home in Beaumont.
Fulton met his soon-to-be wife Martha Lou Burton at the South Texas State Fair in October of 1943. At that time, she was working in the office of Consolidated Shipyard in Orange. They had their first date the following weekend at the Fair. Dad proposed to Mom in December of that year and she accepted. They married on May 6, 1944 at Roberts Avenue Methodist with his Mother, his sister Eula, the Reverend Ryder and his wife in attendance. They were married seventy-two years. Fulton was declared 4F in April 1944 as a result of back surgery for pneumonia when he was five years old. Fulton and Martha were devoted Christians and they were members of Fannett Baptist Church for many years and then three children grew up in church. They moved their letter to Calvary Baptist Church in 1978. He was a Deacon and she worked in the Nursery and Children’s Dept. as well as the Church library.
A.F. Mack Sr. died in 1951 after of series of strokes left him disabled and Leah Mack died in 1982 at the age of 82. His only sister Eula Louise Kaspar died in 2000 as a result of heart surgery complications, she is survived by husband Weldon Kaspar of Fannett. Martha died in May of 2016 at the age of 91. Their daughter Patricia Ann Ellis died in 2009 at the age of 56, their son William Ray Mack died in 2014 at the age of 68. Their son-in-law Archie Thomas Derrick died in August 2016 at the age of 84.
Fulton is survived by daughter; Sherry Derrick of Houston, daughter-in-law; Linda C. Mack of Lumberton, and son-in-law Ronald Ellis of Fannett. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Fulton and Martha loved to travel and took their grandchildren on numerous camping trips. Later they traveled around the world including Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands in 1970. In 1998 they went to England, Wales and Ireland where he kissed the blarney stone. They spent a week in Hawaii as part of their 60th wedding anniversary celebration.
Fulton loved to fish and had many fishing partners through the years including Bill Stevens, and Troyce Reeves. He owned several boats and fondly recalls his final fishing trip with grandson Cory Ellis. He could make or fix anything including cars, lawnmowers, tractors, etc. He and Martha built their first new home from the ground up. Ronald Ellis lives in that home.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 21, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life funeral service time of 12:00 noon at Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont with a reception meal to follow the service. Burial services will be private for family only.
