

Donald Kent Croom, 74, a resident of over forty years from Sour Lake coming from the Nederland area, passed away on Sunday May 15, 2016 at his residence. Donald was born on September 5, 1941 in Lafayette, Louisiana to his parents Archie and Mary Broussard Croom who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his daughter; Donnell Maryan Croom, two brothers; Douglas Pennell and George Pennell. He is survived by his loving wife; Beulah Maryan Minner Croom of Sour Lake, two sons;Don Moel Croom and significant other Felicia Young of Sour Lake , David Kent Croom and wife Candace of Kountze, brothers;Larry Croom and wife Sue of Nederland, Teddy Croom and wife Patricia of Orangefield, three grandchildren; Whitfield Young, Forrest Young, and Donnell Marie Noeller.
Donald was a Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church of Sour Lake. He enjoyed doing wood crafting, carpentry, furniture finishing, playing cards especially poker, and anything associated with mathematics. He liked being able to help people in the community and even volunteered at the local Carpenter Library. He loved watching TV, especially old war movies and collected stray cats so much that he became affectionately known as “The Cat Man”. Another favorite thing he enjoyed was impersonating Santa Claus during the Christmas season.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 21, 2016 at 5:00p.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Beaumont.
Donald often talked that upon his death, he wanted to make sure that his body would be able to be used for research especially concentrating on the effects of Agent Orange. The request will be accomplished and he hoped that the studies done would benefit society and others who are dealing with the same on a personal basis.
