Doris Williamson Nelson of Houston passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 in Houston. She was born in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, on November 11, 1921 to Rufus Samuel Williamson and Ada Blanche Dennis, and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother R. S. "Bubba" Williamson, Jr., and her sister Lillie Francis Lauve.
She graduated from Lamar College in Beaumont where she was a member of the band and orchestra. She was an avid bridge player and traveler, and a member of the Fort Bend chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1981. Additionally, she was a dedicated volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston for over thirty years.
Doris is survived by her husband of 71 years, Lloyd Prentice Nelson of Houston; sons Randall L. Nelson of Houston and David W. Nelson of Lake Jackson; grandchildren Walter Nelson, Tara Nelson, and Tracy Nelson Camacho; three great grandchildren, niece Beverly Lauve Swaim and nephew Chuck Williamson.
Services will be at 2:00 pm. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont, with entombment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
