

Dortha Marie Cowart, 97, a lifelong resident of Beaumont, passed away on Saturday June 20, 2015 in Vidor. Mrs. Cowart was born on May 23, 1918 in Port Neches, Texas to her parents, Samuel T. and Mary Frances Bardin Nixon who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband Linton S. Cowart, Sr. and one sister, Dimples Huckabee. Most of her life Dortha was a homemaker and during the war times she drove a truck for Munro’s Dry Cleaners, worked for both the White House downtown Beaumont and J. C. Penney, and also sold Stanley Products. She had various hobbies which included sewing, playing basketball, volleyball, square dancing with her husband and then later took up line dancing. Mrs. Cowart is survived by her two sons, Linton S. Cowart, Jr. and wife Pat of Vidor, Leonard Cowart and wife Lynn of Clarksville, Arkansas, one daughter, Linda Etheridge and husband Mark of Leander, Texas. Also surviving Dortha are eight grandchildren; Matt Cowart, Debbie Chavers and husband Seaborn, Christy Hardt and husband Mitch, Jody Cowart and wife Laurie, Timothy Brooks, Angela Schreiber and husband Stuart, Christopher Etheridge, Andre’ Etheridge and wife Katia, eleven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning June 23, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral service time of 11:00 A.M. in the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
