Eunice Mae Bigelow Tanner, age 79, of Cypress, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 21, 1945, in Transylvania, Louisiana, to the late Ora Mae and John Bigelow. Eunice lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community, leaving behind a cherished legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched.
Eunice was a loving wife to Harlan Tanner, whom she married on June 7, 1969. Their marriage spanned 41 beautiful years until Harlan's passing. Together, they built a family and a life filled with warmth, support, and countless memories. Eunice was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harlan, as well as her mother, Ora Mae Bigelow; father, John Bigelow; and brothers, Thomas and Clayton Bigelow.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Amy Hedrick; her son Brian Tanner and his wife Kim Tanner; and her grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Lauren Boudreaux, Kaitlyn Hedrick, Camryn Tanner, Carson Tanner, Rob Tanner, Carly Tanner, Anais Tanner, and Ava Tanner. Eunice was also blessed with a great-granddaughters, Brooklyn Boudreaux and Aubrey Boudreaux, and great-grandson, Knox Hedrick, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Eunice is also survived by her "all-time favorite child and fur baby", Mercy.
Eunice was an educated woman, having graduated from Lake Providence High School and later earning her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, in 1994. Before receiving her degree, she took on various roles, including working at Southwestern Bell in Monroe, Louisiana, and Louisiana Central Bank in Ferriday, Louisiana. Eunice also served as a substitute teacher in Elkhart, Texas, before dedicating her career to teaching in the Beaumont Independent School District, where she inspired countless students until her retirement.
Throughout her life, Eunice had a passion for sports, particularly enjoying watching her children play basketball. Her own love for the game began in her youth, as she played for her high school team. Beyond sports, she found joy in sewing, painting, and participating in arts and crafts with friends. A true creative at heart, Eunice took delight in making and sending personalized cards to loved ones. In her later years, she embraced the friendships she developed at her apartment during game nights, with Rumikub being her particular favorite.
Eunice was known for her loving, caring nature, and her infectious laugh that could light up any room. She had a unique ability to bring joy to those around her, and her kindness left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In this time of reflection, the family wishes to extend special gratitude to Tricia McKinney and the staff at Hands to Lend Personal Assistant Living Home, where Eunice spent her final six months. The family is deeply appreciative of the loving and attentive care they provided, bringing peace and comfort during a time of uncertainty.
Eunice Mae Bigelow Tanner will be remembered not only for the life she lived but for the love she shared. She leaves behind a family united in their memories of her laughter, kindness, and unwavering spirit. May her legacy of love continue to inspire all who knew her.
A celebration of Eunice’s life will take place on September 21, 2025 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home at 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas. There will be a time of visitation for family and friends from 2pm to 3pm and service starting at 3pm.
