

Gene Paul "Punkin" Selman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the age of 76, in Ozone, Arkansas. Gene's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and an unwavering appreciation for the simple joys of life.
"Punkin" was born in Beaumont, Texas, he carried with him the values and principles instilled by his parents throughout his life. Gene's family was at the center of his world, and his legacy is beautifully reflected in the relationships he cultivated and cherished. Gene served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
"Punkin" is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia Wood Selman, with whom he shared a lifelong love that stood the test of time. He is also survived by his children, who were the pride and joy of his life: his son Brian Selman and wife Allie of Lumberton, Texas; his son Jeremiah "Miah" Selman of Ozone, Arkansas; his daughter Mishelle Vaclavik of Ozone, Arkansas; and his daughter Terri Ann Shaleen and husband Zack of Broken Arrow, Arkansas. Gene's love and support for his children knew no bounds, and he leaves behind a legacy of care and guidance that will forever endure.
In addition to his immediate family, Gene is survived by his dear sister, Marilyn "Peachie" Wright of Beaumont, Texas, who shared a special bond with him throughout their lives. Gene was also blessed with a multitude of grandchildren, each of whom held a unique place in his heart: Sierra Selman, Savanna Selman, Shady Cinder, DJ Cinder, Hunter Morgan, Charli Grace Shaleen, Ezra Shaleen, Aleesie Shaleen, and his great-grandchild, Gentry Cinder. He took great delight in the time spent with his growing family and was an endless source of love and wisdom for them.
"Punkin" was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Paul Selman and Marilyn Jeannie Ritter Selman. Those who knew him remember Gene as "Punkin," a man of simplicity, who found joy in the beauty of nature and the warmth of his family. He cherished every moment spent in the company of his loved ones, and his appreciation for life's simplest pleasures served as a reminder to all who knew him of what truly matters.
