George Esbert Brown, Jr., 96, of Beaumont, passed away, Monday, December 23, 2019, in Beaumont. George was born on September 8, 1923, in Beaumont to the late George Esbert Brown, Sr. and Edith Hill Brown.
George was an entrepreneur his whole life, starting when he was young, selling candy and delivering newspapers. In high school he worked as a soda jerk at Pat Woods Drug Store in Port Arthur. Later he served in the Merchant Marines, Coast Guard and Army Transportation Corp during WWII, attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. During the 1950s and 1960s he owned G. E. Brown Pump Services, where he built and maintained gasoline stations. He became a real estate broker in the 1960s, working in the El Paso and Austin areas. In the 1970s he and Toni began traveling extensively for their wholesale antique business. He also worked in various environmental businesses in the 1980s. George could be counted on for an entertaining story and was always looking for "one more good project."
George was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. William E. Brown; sisters, Mary Dixon and Dr. E. Marie McIntosh.George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Antoinette "Toni" Brown of Beaumont; son, George E. Brown III and his wife Deborah of Jacksonville, TX; daughter, Martha J. Pate of Beaumont; brother, Thomas A. Brown and his wife Betty Marie of Beaumont; sister, Betty Ann Brown of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Stephanie Denise Castle (Brown) of Houston, Nicole A. Brown of Katy, Joel Tenea “Jo-Te” Brown of Austin, Suzanne M. Pate of Beaumont, Jennifer L. Pate of Beaumont; great-grandchildren, Kristina A. Castle and Katie A. Duhon; plus many other relatives and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, December 27, 2019, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life for George will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
