

Hubert “Hubie” Al Hilz, 66, of Vidor, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Hubie was the only child of Fronyne Bea Taylor and Rudolph Albert Hilz born August 30, 1951 in Lamesa, Texas.
He graduated from Joaquin High School in 1970. He went on to further his education at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he obtained his Bachelor Degree in Science & Agriculture and graduated in 1974. He returned in 1993 and obtained his Masters of Education Degree.
Hubie obtained his first teaching position at Vidor High School in the fall of 1974. Then in 1979, he moved to teaching with Beaumont I.S.D. until his retirement in 2005. Following 2005, he periodically substituted for Vidor Jr. High School and Vidor High School.
Hubie is survived by his wife Mary Achord; two biological daughters and their spouses, Jennifer and Tony LeDoux of Vidor and Hope Hilz and James Plaia of Beaumont; step-daughters, Angie and her spouse Aaron Phillips of Walker, Louisiana, and Amanda Shrestha of Groves; stepson Tommy Chapman and spouse Carey of Port Neches; and grandchildren, Joni LeDoux, Carmine Plaia, Sarah & Sadie Shrestha and Thomas Chapman IV.
Visitation will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 20 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Beaumont. A Celebration of Hubie’s Life will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. in Beaumont, officiated by Dr. Stephen Dollar. A private burial will follow at Ashton Cemetery in Joaquin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Vidor High School FFA Organization.
