

James Calvin Cheek, 92, of Beaumont, passed away on Thursday March 27, 2014 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. James was born on July 15, 1921 in Yellville, Arkansas. He was a farm owner for thirty-eight years in Kansas and later on moved to Beaumont and was a resident here for over fifty-five years. Mr. Cheek was a member of the Baptist Faith. He also was a self-employed iron worker in the construction industry. His hobbies included bird hunting, fishing, was an avid gardener, loved being in rodeos in his youth, playing music on his guitar, and rode horses. James was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, second wife, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his daughters: Diane Alfaro and her husband Pete, Sr., of Kountze, and Sandy Hrncir and husband Jerry of Lumberton,three grandsons:Pete Alfaro, Jr.and wife Dana,Joshua Alfaro, Jacob Alfaro, three granddaughters,Ashley Kelly and husband Quincy Sr. Courtney Courts and husband Michael, Holley Turner and husband J.J., eight great grandchildren, Blake Alfaro,Brittain Alfaro, Rayleigh Alfaro, Brooklynn Kelly,Quincy Kelly, Jr., Hunter Courts, Holden Courts, and Miyah Turner. Also surviving are Jake, Garrett, Kelly, and Candice Peltier, who James thought of as grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday morning March 29, 2014, beginning at 9:00 A.M. until service time at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
Serving as pallbearers will be Pete Alfaro, Sr., Pete Alfaro, Jr., Pat Peltier, Jake Peltier, Garrett Peltier and Joshua Alfaro. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Jacob Alfaro.
