Marcelino "Moose" Lopez Sr.

Marcelino "Moose" Lopez Sr., 97, of Beaumont, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 21st, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 2nd, 1922 to Jesse and Petra Lopez in Lemonville, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Marcelino "Pelon" Lopez Jr., son-in-law Jesse Villareal, brother Felix Lopez, and sister Jessie Ortiz.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years Mary Arriola Lopez, daughters Lenora Villareal wife of Jesse in memoriam, Ginny Morales and husband Emmitt, Yolanda De La Rosa and husband Hector, and Rosie Barnes and husband Robert. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Marcelino was drafted into the Army in 1943. He served in the Invasion of Normandy of 1944 with the 440th AAA (AW) Battalion. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. Upon his return from Germany to the United States, he learned the trade of auto body mechanic and worked most of his years for Bill Torres Automotive, Raiford Motors, and Mike Smith Auto. He was married July 1, 1946 to Mary Arriola. After retiring he could be found most days fishing at Roll-Over Pass and Pleasure Island. He loved hot dogs, boxing, and the Dallas Cowboys.

A viewing and Rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 24th from 6 PM-8 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in the chapel. A graveside service will be held July 25th at 1:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank his wonderful care providers; Dr. John Henderson IV, Dr. Bertron Brown, Amy Quinn NP, Martha Selensky RN, Kindred Hospice- Valencia and Tasha and all of their caring staff, and Father Luis Urriza of Cristo Rey Catholic Church for his many years of spiritual support and loyal friendship.
